Whakapakari Tinana is a healthy lifestyle framework that supports Māori and Pasifika communities and groups to engage and strengthen healthy lifestyle practices.  It can be delivered in many different settings –  sports clubs and facilities, churches, marae, colleges and workplaces.  We work with host groups or group leaders to co-create the approach that will work best for your community or group.

  • Kai/Wai (good food, hydration and cooking skills), 
  • Korikori (movement and places to get active), 
  • Moe (sleep hygiene and restful practices), 
  • Whānau (staying connected, bringing whānau together) and
  • Te Mana Hauora (practicing mindfulness and wellbeing).

Te Awa Active

Te Awa Active is a suite of fun weekly exercise sessions we offer for FREE.  They happen in quality facilities, with qualified instructors who are skilled at training and supporting people within their exercise ability and requirements.

Where to find us?

Te Awa Active empowers people to become active and take a journey to good health through fun group exercise sessions.  It is great for everyone including those who don’t feel comfortable in a gym environment.  We encourage those struggling with a medical condition and/or their weight to come and check it out.

Te Awa Active Sessions at Les Mills Hutt City (you do not need a Les Mills membership as these classes are free!)
Wednesday: 1pm – 2pm
Monday and Friday: 11:30am – 12:30pm

Good Food is a hands-on practical cooking programme for people wanting to gain new skills in preparing quick meals on a budget while learning about healthy eating.  Our team shows people how to cook favourite dishes and snacks in a healthy way with an emphasis on creating meals on a tight budget.  People can experiment with new ingredients and new flavours.  Faith led programmes are also available and are tailored to the needs of each community.

How to access this?

Good Food programmes have been hosted by community houses, marae, kohanga reo and other community organisations.  Individuals who would like to join one of the community sessions are encouraged to contact us with your details so that you can be linked into a programme.

The type of health checks provided within the Hauora WoF are centered around the needs of the community at hand.  The model is delivered within the Ministry of Health standards, and merges NZ clinical guidelines, Whānau Ora and kaupapa Māori approaches to enable a culturally and clinically safe environment for effective delivery.
