The Language Line Interpreting Service is a telephone interpreting service which provides interpreting for 44 languages. It aims to ensure that patients who do not speak English are not disadvantaged when seeking health care.
Costs and availability
The service is available to anyone enrolled with Te Awakairangi Health Network practices and there is no cost to them or the practice.
Language Line operates on:
- Monday to Friday – 9am-6pm
- Saturday – 9am-2pm.
An Interpreter will be available within minutes of making a call to the confidential 0800 number given to your practice.
The Interpreters at Language Line are fully conversant in both English and one of 44 other languages.
Many of them are based in Australia, which ensures confidentiality, especially for those patients living in small and close-knit communities.
Language Line offers the patients an opportunity to choose a female or male Interpreter.
