Dr Dougal Thorburn

Dougal affiliates to Waikato iwi, was raised in Christchurch and undertook his medical training and public health training at the University of Otago. He has been in general practice since 2012 and is a Fellow of the RNZCGP. He has experience in clinical practice in high needs and Māori communities, in integration work across the health continuum, and participation in sector groups, including PHARMAC advisory groups, Te Ohu Rata o Aotearoa (the Maori Doctor’s Association), the University of Otago and in Ora Taiao (NZ Climate and Health Council). Dougal works part-time as a general practitioner in one of our local practices, and part-time as a Clinical Director, providing leadership for our Network through his focus on population health, and improving equity of health outcomes for Māori, Pasifika and low-income families.
